Founded by BRL Director William O'Brien, for 25 years the annual
Allerton meeting studied ultrasonics in biophysics and
bioengineering. The meetings were held from 1978 to 2002.
The NIH Radiation Biophysics and Bioengineering in Oncology Training
(ROT, an NIH T32 training grant) Program served as a central focus
for training predoctoral and postdoctoral trainees for careers in the
interdisciplinary fields related to the identification,
classification, and treatment of cancer at the University of Illinois
at Urbana-Champaign. Founding program director was Professor Howard
Ducoff. Other program directors were Hal Swarz and William O'Brien.
